FAQ

FAQ

  • Q. How does SCM differ from conventional viscometers?

In the case of conventional viscometers, replacement or repair typically takes at least 60 hours and requires welding or hot work.
In contrast, the SCM features a plug-and-play design that allows replacement within 3 hours without any hot work. It is a next-generation viscosity control system that ensures enhanced viscosity control precision, while allowing the existing piping structure to be maintained.

  • Q. Will installation affect vessel operation schedule?

    No.
The SCM is designed for replacement within the docking schedule without the need to stop vessel operations, enabling safe installation even during moorage. This minimizes operational losses and ensures efficient maintenance.

  • Q. How does SCM control viscosity?

The SCM employs a PID-based automatic control algorithm.
It analyzes temperature and viscosity sensor data in real time to maintain target viscosity within the set tolerance. Even in the presence of sensor noise or temperature fluctuations, the SCM ensures stable and reliable control.

  • Q. How is maintenance performed after installation?

The SCM’s modular design allows partial replacement of components, enabling repairs even if certain components are discontinued.

  • Q. What is the IP rating?

The SCM body is a panel-mounted type, installed inside a control box, so an IP rating is not required. If necessary, an enclosure can be used to achieve IP44 protection.

  • Q. Has it been installed before?

    Yes.
The SCM and SBM systems have been installed at major shipping companies and shipyards such as KLC SM, SK Shipping, and HJ Heavy Industries and have been successfully validated through over two years of operational use.

  • Q. Can government (public) agencies purchase it?

    Yes.
The SCM is designated as a Public Procurement Service (PPS) Innovative Product (Certification No. 2025-279). Public institutions can purchase it via direct contract without competitive bidding, and earn extra points for innovative product procurement in institutional evaluations.

  • Q. How much fuel cost savings can be expected?

Demonstrations have shown a 2.5–4% improvement in fuel efficiency due to stabilized viscosity, translating to approximately KRW 180–290 million in annual savings per vessel. With an installation cost of KRW 25 million, the investment can be recovered within a couple of months.

  • Q. What fuels and vessel types can the SCM applied to?

The SCM can be applied to diesel and turbine generators, boilers, main engines, and generators powered by heavy oil (IFO, MGO, etc.). It can be installed not only on vessels but also in land-based plants or power generation facilities.

  • Q. Is the SCM ready for overseas certification and export?

The SCM has obtained CE, ISO9001, ISO45001, and KC certifications. Certificates in English, including the PPS Innovative Product certification, are available upon request for overseas buyers. We are also in the process of forming partnerships with local entities in Singapore and Dubai to enter these markets after 2025.
